Common uses for tasks tags

Just as you can tag matters (learn more here), you can tag tasks as well. This allows you to add custom properties to your tasks and filter the matter and workspace task lists using those properties.

Common use cases include:

  • Creating dynamic meeting agendas (tag tasks with a 'weekly meeting' tag, and filter the task list to create your agenda);

  • Create shared task lists to be managed by people as a team;

  • Create watch lists of key tasks that you want to keep an eye on;

  • Use tags to flag tasks with statuses that are relevant to how you like to work (e.g. 'approved') or the type of task (e.g. calls, emails, research etc) to help with batching similar tasks and completing them in blocks.

Adding tags to tasks

Task tags have a label and an optional value i.e. [tag label (mandatory)] : [tag value (optional)].

To add a tag to a task, open the task, scroll down and you'll find the 'Tags' section on the right.

Click on the 'Add a tag' field. You'll be presented with a selection of any recently used tags (this helps with consistency in the use of tags - important for effective use of filtering and reporting features that use the tags). You can select from these or start typing to 'create' a new tag label.

Once you add a tag you can give it a value as well. Just click on the tag and enter a value in the 'Tag Value' field.

How to filter the workspace or matter task list by tags

You can filter your tasks by their task tags in both the matter and workspace task lists.

Click on the 'Tags' button in the task list. You'll be presented with the 'Add a tag to the filter' box. Click on the 'Select a tag' field to get a list of available tags (you may need to start typing to narrow down the list) and select a tag.

You can then choose from an additional set of options:

  • Exists - find all tasks that have this tag label (regardless of what tag value they have, if any)

  • Equals - find all tasks that have this tag label and this exact tag value that I will enter.

  • Starts with - find all tasks that have this tag label and whose tag value starts with the value that I will enter.

Then click 'Add' to filter the task list by this tag and value combination.
